The threat of wet weather, that ended up just being a sprinkle, kept the turnout low this weekend at the 19th ANNUAL WV HALL OF FAME SHOOT<\/strong>. Thirty four shooters braved come what may to shoot the Kenneth Lilley Singles Championship<\/strong> 200 singles. In the first hundred two shooters, Michael Whitmore (2025 WV Singles Champion) and Mark Isner ( two time WV Singles Champion) blasted 100 straights. But, were unable to convert on the second hundred with both posting 196. Mikel Boone (2025 WV Handicap Champion) posted a 99 on the first hundred and a 98 for the second posting the top score of 197 to secure the Singles Championship, with Isner and Whitmore left to square off in the Vet category. Mark forfeited to Michael for Veteran honors. With championships in mind Whitmore would not be denied, in the John Elliott Preliminary Handicap<\/strong>, missing just three targets from the 23 yard line for a 97 and a 1 yard punch to the 24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday was beautiful, but foggy in the morning, before the Kip Captor Doubles Championship<\/strong> where Scott Ross broke the top score of 96 over the 30 shooter field. The Bill Bishop Handicap Championship <\/strong>went to Whitmore, this time breaking a field high 94 from the 24 earning and another 1 yard punch to the 25. Forty shooters competed in the handicap event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leetown Gun Club added a new field for seven trap fields. The grounds were impeccable, Ray Childers and his group has made a number of improvements and the physical plant worked without issue during the 16,500 targets thrown. A lunch was provided during the break in hundreds on Saturday consisting of Cheeseburger\/Hotdog, baked beans, chips and drinks for the shooters and workers. Leetown provided the Scott Littleton Buckle for the High All Around won by Mark Isner with a 372<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a bit of a snafu with the trophy buckles as they didn’t make the trip to Leetown and further, the category buckles for the Preliminary Handicap and Doubles event were missing. These are ordered and will be mailed in approximately 3-4 weeks. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. All other buckles have been mailed.
