We were sad to hear of Donnie’s sudden passing on June 7, 2025.
Donnie started registering ATA targets in 2013 Winning the WV State Handicap Championship in 2019. Quicky amassing twenty five thousand nine hundred singles, twenty five thousand seven hundred handicap and thirteen thousand nine hundred doubles during his short thirteen year shooting
career. He attended the WV State Shoot, the WV Hall of Fame shoot, the Ohio State shoot, VA state shoot Maryland State shoot, as well as, supporting local trap clubs in WV, MD, VA and PA. His obituary follows:
Donald R. “Donnie” Lafollette Obituary
Donald R. “Donnie” Lafollette, 68, of Yellow Spring, WV, died on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at his river lot in Romney, WV.
Donnie was born May 10, 1957, in Winchester, VA, the son of Martha Grey
Shanholtz and the late Stanley R. Lafollette. Donnie was a veteran in
the United States Army, a member of the Capon Valley Rod and Gun Club in
Yellow Spring and was an avid trap shooter. He participated in many
tournaments and was even on the West Virginia trap shooting team. In his
younger years he was an EMT & firefighter at Capon Springs Vol.
Fire & Rescue, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at
his river lot with his friends and family.
Donnie married Mary K. Sandy on February 3, 1979, in Hawaii.
Surviving with his mother and his wife of 46 years are two daughters: Christy
Lewis (Paul) of Duck, WV; Renee Casey of Winchester, VA; a brother: Joe
Lafollette of Berkeley Springs, WV; a sister: Brenda Lafollette of
Hedgesville, WV; four grandchildren: Isaac & Rebecca Lewis, and
Tyler & Shawna Heflin; and his dog: Rusty.
He is preceded in death by his father and a brother: Mark Lafollette.
A memorial service will be held at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory on
Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Susie
Largent.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:00 PM.
